our work is showcased below:

Lindy Lane
Saratoga, CA |
|
| It is not often that we have a site with a view stretching from the Golden Gate to Gilroy. The existing 1954 residence was surrounded by shrubs which obscured much of the view. We opened up the site to create a motor court entry and classical façade. The owner wanted an unobstructed rear view so floor to ceiling glass overlooks the infinity edge pool. The pool house was buried below grade keeping the view clear to the valley below.

Mockingbird Hill Lane

The existing house evolved over many decades from a small cabin. The owner lived there many years while planning a new house. The site is unincorporated County land so we had to plan around a large septic system which constrained and defined the final building envelope. The owner/builder completed much of the house then passed away suddenly. We are adding some finishing elements and making minor modifications with the new owners of this home.

Orchard Avenue
Mountain View, CA |

This was an unusual opportunity as there were two existing houses on this site near downtown Mountain View. The neighborhood is transitioning from single family to multi-family developments. The City was very specific about the design features and we maximized the allowable building area. The project includes solar panels for electricity production with a very tight, well insulated building envelope. |

Bruce
Avenue,
Los Gatos, CA |
|
| Originally
this Craftsmen style home was a Victorian bunkhouse. The owners wanted
to remodel their home but the Loma Prieta earthquake damaged the old
house beyond repair. The site is part of a small 4 lot enclave requiring
the house to present its best elevation on several sides. The owner
decided to use a compact footprint yielding 2,900 sf. of living space
with a detached garage to allow for maximum open space on the small
lot. |

Brush Road
Los Gatos, CA
|
|
| At
3,800 sf. this Contemporary home is not large, yet the interior volume
is huge. The previous home was destroyed by fire and the site was
heavily graded, while retaining the existing landscape. Construction
started during the middle of the last El Nino winter leaving a mud
bog. The foundation contractor somehow managed to create a clean foundation
in the midst of torrential rains. At some points the ceiling is 28
feet tall; imagine setting huge beams with virtually nothing to stand
on in the middle of a storm. |

Buena Vista Avenue,
Los Gatos, CA
|
|
| This
house is located on a secluded flag lot in Los Gatos. The property
is almost flat and the owner wanted the building to be as close to
grade as possible. We utilized style elements from old farmhouses
and Victorians in the area. |

Michaels Drive,
Saratoga, CA
|
|
| A
small cottage sat in dense forest alongside the creek prior to construction.
The owner, who was older asked for the house to be on one level even
though the site is relatively steep. In order to minimize bulk we
utilized the cantilevered trusses below the main floor allowing the
house to float above the creek. This area has significant
ground movement so deep piers were drilled under each truss. The exterior
is finished in clear Redwood to better blend in with the surrounding
trees. |

Saratoga Heights
Road
Saratoga, CA
|
|
| This
home is approximately 4,800 sf. with a three-car garage. The site
is two acres of rolling hillside near Paul Masson Mountain Winery.
Our clients had seen a home with the fundamental geometry shown and
wanted to know if we could capture the look & feel
while allowing for their specific family needs. Usually we start with
the function and form follows, but in this case the reverse approach
resulted in a grand home. |

Tollgate Road
Saratoga, CA
|
|
| The
owners wanted a crisp Contemporary home in the midst of a Neo-traditional
neighborhood. This home derives design elements from Sea Ranch along
the Mendocino coast. The home wraps 270 degrees around the knoll providing
panoramic views of the valley below. Living area is approximately
5,200 sf. with complete entertainment and automation wiring in every
room. |
